Thread counts and plying

Every brand uses their own particular thread which often means that a Perle 12 in one brand can look different to another once they are stitched. This all depends on the fibre and the spin on the thread, as well as if it has come of a tensioned bobbin or in a skein.

Our Perle 12 Cotton is a slightly finer weight than some like tthe Aurifil because of it’s tight spin. If you are used to using DMC 6 stranded, our Perle 12 equates to approximately a strand and a half.

Our Fine Weight Silk is a surprisingly versatile thread. It is a similar thickness to a 30 weight machine cotton, or a single strand of DMC 6 stranded thread - it also plies up beautifully like the 6 stranded.
